The Engineering Word List (EWL) is an academic word list similar to the AWL, but compiled to specifically serve the needs of EFL engineering students and their teachers. The list was compiled using the Engineering English Corpus (EEC). For more information about the EEC, please visit our about page.

The EWL is available in an Excel spreadsheet format with all words, their frequencies, and their frequency rank.

The interactive EWL contains the 1,494 most frequent words from the full list, organized by headwords, which are searchable, sortable, and linked to related materials from this site, such as sample sentences, and common phrases for each word.
The EWL highlighter allows you to input text and it will automatically highlight and count any words which occur in your text and the EWL. There is also an option to highlight words from the AWL.
